Internet Marketing Strategies: How will you create traffic to your website? There are countless ways to do this, including: pay-per-click purchases (in which you buy a keyword at a search engine and pay for placement on that search engine for that keyword and pay for each visitor who clicks on that link and is sent to your site); organic search engine listing ranking (in which your site comes up at the top of the non-sponsored listings on a search engine by having keyword rich descriptions in the page title and page desciption meta tags and then optimizing each page for no more than 3 keywords in the first 250 words on a page); well-written email newsletter that is published on a regular basis; submission of articles on topics related to your target market to article submission directories; regularly post entries to a blog aimed at your target market, full of content discussing issues related to that target market; series of podcasts containing interview with experts of interest to your target market; ongoing series of teleconferences containing value-added content for your target market; submission of online press releases with new tips information for your target market; exchange relevant links with others in different industries with the same target market; 10. Building a Team: You'll never be able to do this all alone. The most successful business owners don't even try. You need to add experts to your team who are great at what they do so that you've got the time and energy to go out and do what you do best -- selling your products and services to your target market. Some great experts to add to your team include a virtual assistant or online business manager, an online business coach, a web site designer, a graphic designer, a writing expert (editor, ghost writer, proof reader or copy writer), a bookkeeper, and intellectual property attorney, to name a few. One reason many people get into Internet Marketing is so that they can have more free time. However, many people find themselves sinking more and more time into their online business before they realise that they have exchanged one job chained to a desk for another, chained to a computer.

Free Stuff = Solid Profit

Here is a well-known, but little used fact: People like free things. If you went to a street corner and started handing out staples, people would line up to take them from you. This is true even if you were giving away something they don’t need. If you told them the staples cost $2, they would feel proud of having snagged one for free. Now what would happen if you gave out something that people actually wanted, that they actually wanted to pay for, even stand in line for. In fact, we assume that if something is given away free then it must be inherently invaluable about it. When we receive something that we know has value, either in dollars or in its interest to us, we not only remember who gave it to us, but we actually feel indebted to them. Seth Godin is the author of an amazing book called ‘the ideadvirus’. In that book, to simplify, he states that in order to quickly spread a message (virus), one needs to give something of value away, make it significant enough that others spread it on your behalf, and if the message is ‘virus-worthy’ it will quickly spread through a group without much work from you. How can you profit from this? Read the book. To illustrate this, Seth gave the whole book away free on his site, asking only for emails in return and he asked readers to forward the book onto friends and workmates. Knowing the crowd he was looking infect with his virus, he knew that if they liked what they read – they would want to tell people and boast of what they smartly found for free. He actually had about 400 000 downloads in the first few weeks, and just before you think he made no money: when he released the hardcover through amazon.com, it climbed to the top of its sales charts. In fact people who had bought the ebook version, went and purchased the hardcover – they felt like they owed Seth. This was a 400 page book… I read it, twice – it was that good, and proof of the actual theory he was exposing. Be aware that what is free for your visitors will cost you something – it will cost you in your bandwidth/hosting costs, it will definitely cost you something in terms of time and effort to produce the site and the very thing you give away – but if you play the strategy right, it can pay off well. Get a good idea of what you are trying to accomplish, and determine what you can do or give away to help you grow. 1. get something of value to your audience 2. Get them to give you something in return – their email and their friends email 3. Give them permission and instructions on how to share that free download. 4. Encourage, or reward those who share that download (sometimes if your stuff is good – the pride of sharing something great is enough to motivate people – but it has to be amazing!) 5. With all the awareness, buzz and traffic you generate – find away of profiting from that. It’s not hard, but its easy to get greedy and mess up the strategy. In fact it takes a lot of courage to do this. You will be giving away something you could be earning from – Seth Godin gave up 500,000 potential sales – instead he had 500,000 advertisers who willingly and honestly spreading the word in a well defined market which resulted in sales of that book – and with his new popularity, many others. By the way, I don’t think its free anymore. It doesn’t need to be… companies actually buy books by the box for all their marketing employees. How did that happen? Because some net savy marketing VP downloaded the book – loved it, and bought a hard copy for his CEO, who thought it was brilliant and ordered it for everyone… and the waves of impact spread. Believe it or not organization is one of the most important elements for success when it comes to making money online. I’m a kind of guy who likes things to be in order anyway, but I’ll tell you about a few key secrets that I believe will contribute to your success online.

First and very important it’s an absolute must that you keep your business finances separate from your personal finances. I recommend having 2-3 credit cards that you use for business purchases only.

Yes I’m a big fan of credit cards as long as you pay them off monthly. If you don’t plan on paying off your business credit cards monthly, then you should plan for many headaches. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Get just about any book on responsibly managing your finances from Amazon or your favorite bookstore and the author will say the same thing. Paying off your credit cards every month is just as important for your business as it is for your personal finances.

I also highly recommend getting some type of financial software as soon as possible. I started out with Quickbooks about 4 months after I started my business and have loved it ever since. I also recommend some kind of Quickbooks for Dummies or Bible type book to help you get started.

Many people complain about the complexity of Quickbooks, but hands down I believe it’s the best program for online business accounting. If you can’t afford Quickbooks then use a spreadsheet. There are a couple of other tools that I believe are more important before you buy Quickbooks.

Whatever you do, try to keep business stuff separate from personal stuff, including your time. This isn’t an article about time management, there are plenty of those out there, but just do whatever it takes to schedule time to develop your business and schedule personal time to do other stuff. When you’re scheduled to do business stuff, don’t go searching on ebay for that widescreen TV you’ve been wanting.

I also highly recommend getting some type of filing cabinet to keep track of your records. Some people think that there's not much to keep track of if you've got an online business but that's just not true. If you sell some type of product in your business then you're going to need to keep track of orders that customers have made for you as well as orders that you've placed with vendors, as well as credit card and bank statements and several other miscellaneous items. Even if all you do is affiliate marketing then you still need to have a filing system to keep track purchases you make like an autoresponder, web hosting, software that you purchase like SEO Elite etc.

If you plan to have a successful business then it's very important get these organizational issues in order. Everything doesn't need to be done right away but I would get it done as soon as possible.

Organization will take some practice and diligence and not being too hard on yourself when you mess up, but you can do it. Don’t give up.
